My Kid, The Awesome Programmer ! ( a Parent-Child Bonding Workshop )
|
|
Course Overview
We believe strongly in 2 things: First, parents need to find every opportunity to bond and influence their young child. Second, programming has become a key vital skills for our next generation that even Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google, said, "For most people on Earth, the digital revolution hasn't even started yet. Within the next 10 years, all that will change. Let's get the whole world coding!"
Designed for young creative minds, this workshop engages kids as young as 9 years old - together with their parents - to start learning how to build programs in a 3-hour session. It also serves as a time for the parent and child to have fun, laugh and bond together. For those who are novice to programming, fret not. This course steers clear from code syntax or the conventions of any specific language and keeps the focus on making coding fun. (PS: For those keen on learning how to write in computer programming languages, we will have another course to help you do that! )
Not only does the child learn to program computer animations, etc, they get to write programs to control their own ROBOT! Yes, the robot is for them to bring home as a gift from us :)
In this course, new innovative yet powerful technology tools will be used to do just that: Scratch is one of the best ways to take the first leap into programming. Developed by the MIT ( Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA) Media Lab, Scratch is a visual programming language. Students will use this language to build interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. This visual approach to programming is the perfect way to teach them the fundamental concepts behind programming and software development. Another tool, Lightbot, is a programming puzzle game that lets your kids create fun visual programs to move a little robot around his tiled world, cultivating a real understanding of procedures, loops, and conditionals.
