Talks

This series of talks focuses on three aspects of caring for your body: rest and sleep; food, diet and nutrition; and exercise, it provides a framework for thinking about doing the right thing by your body.

Each talk is one to two hour long, and perfect to motivate and inspire office workers during lunch break.

Exercise for Fitness

We all know that exercise is important in our daily lives, but we may not know why or how much we should exercise.

It’s important to understand that our body is designed to be regularly mobile and active. Long periods of not exercising will result in pains and aches, illnesses and even diseases that hamper our enjoyment of life.

This course gives a balance view of the many benefits of maintaining a regular exercise routine versus the detrimental effects of over-exercising. The types of exercise and intensity suitable for different ages and health situations are explained.

Food, Diet and Nutrition

‘You are what you eat’ may be familiar, but have you considered the truth behind it?

Most of us know that modern diets is bad for our health because it contains too many processed foods that are high in fats, sugar and salt. Instead, we should eat more fresh fruit and vegetables as part of a healthy balanced diet.

Obesity, high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and Type II diabetes are all common problems in modern life and often a direct result of poor diets.

But what counts as a healthy diet?

This course explains what your body needs and why. It continues to look at what is a healthy diet and how some simple changes to your diet can make big differences to your life, including increasing your energy levels, lifting your spirit and, perhaps, reducing the chance of you becoming ill.

Rest and Sleep

It is common knowledge that our body suffers when we do not sleep, have too little sleep and/or have low quality sleep.  Our overall quality of life can be seriously affected by lack of quality sleep and this can heavily influence how we behave and perform, how we feel and even how we look.

This course examines factors that encourage good sleep (sleep hygiene), the dangers of insufficient quality sleep and factors and triggers that can make us feel sleepy or lethargic outside of normal sleeping times.
